WE NEED YOUR HELP!

The Florida Kiwanis disaster relief team is now active and collecting supplies to shelters and school supplies to children in the affected areas. While many people were able to leave ahead of the storm, shelters are reporting a shortage of personal items for people who may stay in the shelters for the next 2 weeks! Some people do not have a home to return to.  Kiwanis clubs in the affected areas will be distributing boxes of personal items to people in need.

The Florida Kiwanis District Office is a distribution center for us but we want to get some trucks into the affected areas of Florida as quickly as possible. We can also arrange to pick up boxes of donated goods if you are in the Sanford area.

We will provide other drop-off areas as we assess the communities in need.

Needed items include shampoo, deodorant, socks, toothbrushes, toothpaste, bars of soap, washcloths, diapers, pull-ups, baby formula, dried foods (macaroni, rice, noodles, beans, pop-tarts, etc), bottles of bleach, empty spray bottles (any sizes), hand cleaner and antiseptic, gloves, masks (any sort), school supplies, pencils, pens, notebook paper, folders, glue sticks, pencil sharpeners, highlighters, sharpies (any color), single subject notepads, toilet paper, paper towels, mosquito spray, First aid supplies, spray sanitizer and soaps for cleaning walls and floors, totebags (cloth), backpacks, water bottles, instant coffee, sugar (put in plastic baggies with zip locks), lots of zip lock baggies in boxes, Contractor garbage bags (2 to 3mil thickness). Most black garbage bags are 1.2 mils thick. These are too thin to carry heavy bags of debris out of homes. We also need cleaning cloths, toys for small children, books, and snack bars.

Contact Melanie Winternheimer, District Executive Director at melanie@floridakiwanis.com and we will help arrange pickups or give you information about drop-off points. Thank you!!!
